A Raptor Kind of Day - Feb. 03, 2011

I started the day with a young Cooper's Hawk perched high in a tree close to the house, he kept the feeders bare for an hour or so.

A short time later a Downy Woodpecker alerted me to an adult male Sharp-shinned Hawk perched in the Pines near the feeders. I've yet to manage a photo of this Blue Jay sized raptor though he's been seen in the yard a few times now.

An hour or so later a trip to the bank found a red morph Screech Owl roosting in a hole in a sawed off branch just east of the Corliss Brother's tree, most likely the same red morph Screech that's been sitting in the Corliss tree. Ann & Gary Gurka put me onto this secondary roost location when they found a gray morph Screech Owl sitting in it over the weekend.
