Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary - Owls & Woodpeckers - March 02, 2011

A stop at the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary this morning turned up some spectacular birds.
This Saw-whet Owl was roosting in a conifer & trying to snooze through all of the
racket several Chickadees, Titmice and Nuthatches were making.

A brief video of the inactive Owl with several birds chattering in the background.
Roosting 14' off of the ground this Saw-whet owl paid very little attention to the Chickadees,
Titmice & Nuthatches that were non to thrilled with it's presence in their neighborhood.

another shot of this oh so cute owl.

A Pileated Woodpecker was working a tree over quite close to the parking lot.

Hand feeding the Chickadees & Titmice is always a treat. They follow you around the
Sanctuary in hopes of a handout. My mono pod stood in for my hand in this shot.

and another brief video showing the fearless Chickadees coming in for a handout.

The Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary is a great place to make a close connection with nature. Bring along a bit of bird seed and offer it to any of the many Chickadees and Titmice that will follow you around looking for a handout. The kids really get a thrill out of it
